  • German men win gold, beat Spain 1-0 Posted Saturday, August 23, 2008 7:03 AM ET

    Top-ranked Germany won the men's field hockey gold medal, defeating darkhorse contender Spain, 1-0. It was the same score from the teams' previous meeting during pool play.

  • Aussie men win bronze medal Posted Saturday, August 23, 2008 4:35 AM ET Australia won its rematch of the gold-medal game in Athens - for the bronze. The Aussies dominated the Netherlands, 6-2, to win the bronze medal. Eddie Ockenden (above) led Australia with two goals.

     

  • Dutch women beat China for gold Posted Friday, August 22, 2008 4:25 AM ET

    The Netherlands beat China, 2-0, to fulfill its goal of winning gold after a disappointing silver medal in Athens. With the silver, China won its first field hockey medal ever. In other games, Argentina beat Germany, 3-1, to win its second straight bronze medal.

  • South Africa, Aussie women win Posted Thursday, August 21, 2008 9:55 PM ET Australia completed its second straight fifth-place Olympic finish by beating Great Britain, 2-0 - a fate the Aussies had been hoping to avoid. In other women's classification games, South Africa surprised New Zealand, 4-1, to avoid last place.

    Spain stunned the defending Olympic champions, battling back from an early deficit to beat Australia, 3-2. Earlier, top-ranked Germany beat the Netherlands on penalty shots. Germany will face Spain in the men's gold medal game on Saturday.


     

  • New Zealand, Belgium men win Posted Thursday, August 21, 2008 1:30 AM ET By Sophia Hollander Belgium avoided 10th place in the men's hockey tournament, shutting out Canada, 3-0. In the other men's classification game, New Zealand earned 7th place by beating Pakistan, 4-2.

    The Netherlands dispatched Argentina, 5-2, in game 2 of the women's semifinals. The top-ranked Dutch earned the chance to avenge their loss in the gold-medal game at the Athens Olympics. They face China in the women's final on Friday.

China will meet the Netherlands in the gold medal game on Friday.
  • U.S. loses final game Posted Tuesday, August 19, 2008 9:55 PM ET Spain defeated the United States, 3-2, in the game for seventh place in the Olympic women's field hockey tournament, with Rocio Ybarra scoring on a penalty corner in the second extra period. In other classification games, South Korea beat Japan, 2-1, for ninth place.

    Spain earned a spot in the semifinals, beating South Korea, 2-1, on the strength of two goals by Santiago Freixa. Australia also advanced to the medal round after tying Great Britain, 3-3. Click here for full results.

    Despite tripling its scoring output from the Olympic tournament, South Africa still fell to Canada, 5-3. With the win, Canada avoided a last-place finish in Pool B. In other games, Belgium edged China, 3-1. The Chinese did not win a game in the tournament.

  • Dutch, German men in semifinals Posted Monday, August 18, 2008 7:13 PM ET The Netherlands clinched a spot in the semifinals defeating Pakistan, 4-2. The Dutch charged back from an early deficit, lead by two goals from Taeke Taekema. In other games, Germany beat New Zealand, 3-1.

The field in Beijing will have two more teams than the Athens tournament, expanding to 12 teams for both the men and women.
