Ukraine finishes first within milliseconds

Beating out Italy by .004 of a second, Inna Osypenko-Radomska of Ukraine has won the women's K-1 500m. Italy's Josefa Idem won silver and Germany's Katrin Wagner-Augustin secured the bronze.

With Canada's Adam van Koeverden and Great Britain's Tim Brabants on his tail, Australian paddler Ken Wallace has won the gold medal in the men's K-1 500m.

Paddlers from Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand continue to dominate flatwater canoe/kayak. Americans Carrie Johnson and Rami Zur did not make it into the finals after competing in the K-1 500m.

On Day 12 of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, strong finishes in the men's 1000m canoe/kayak events came from Russia, Poland, Australia and Latvia. In the women's K-4 500m, Spain came out on top.
